I was driving down the highway at about 70 mph when a car coming up the on ramp pulled in front of me. To avoid hitting him I hit the brakes and the clutch and shifted to neutral. I was going for the e-brake, but saw no need so I let off the clutch and was going to pull over to calm down a bit before continuing. My plan was to just coast in neutral and pull off to the side to collect myself from the near miss. as I let of the clutch though I heard a real high rev sound and realized it was in gear. I guess I bumped it there or something. I immediately shifted back to neutral and was going to put it in the proper gear to just keep going, but when I did and hit the gas there was no acceleration. It just slowly coasted down. I didn't hear any abnormal noises or see any smoke. I stopped and looked around for any fluids and left the car idling. I then decided to turn it off and look under the hood. noticing nothing wrong I decided to try and start it to see if it would go to get it to a shop, but it wouldn't start. I had it towed t the dealership and they say it may be a bent valve, but don't know for sure because they are still deciding who will pay so haven't looked to hard into whats wrong. I did notice the check engine light flashed at me like it was blinking and the check oil light also came on. Could one short over-rev like that blow the engine or bend a valve?

chances are it may have bent it, you should have told them you were going down the road and all of a sudden the engine reved up and died out on you and collected on the warenty.

since its at the dealer just let them look it over and see whats covered by the warenty.
