1993 Other Mazda Models vehicle running will not shift from

Mazda b2300, the truck while running will not shift from park, but if vehicle is not running and key is on the vehicle will shift to any gear and the vehicle will drive okay. Now you shift it to park and it will not go back into any gear unless the vehicle is off and key is turned on, what could this be?
