I get a lot of heat from around the gear lever whilst driving. Is this normal?

I drive a 2001 miata and have the same situation... it is normal probably even more so in the summer because its hot outside. Most miata have heat sink fins on the Oil Pan so it overheating probably isnt the issue. i think its norman
