engine noise on start up while engine cold?

the engine make a loud knocking noise when first started up in the morning. after several minutes the noise gets softer and eventually can not be heard.

One of two things, wrist pin on a piston or connecting rod bearing. My advice, drive till you can no more!

I would make sure the engine oil is clean and full. Then I would add two bottles of lucas engine oil treatment. Also, please go over this guide.
