The fuel filter receommended for the make and model of the car does not match the one that is currently on the car.

The filter that is on the car has the inlet and outlet on the top of the filter, and another connection on the bottom. The extra connection has a 6" piece of rubber hose which is just cut off and dangling towards the bottom of the engine compartment.

Is this the wrong fuel filter for this car? What is the third hose connection for? Can I replace it with the recommended part?

put the recommended fuel filter on the car because the one that is on it now is the wrong one and it sounds like the one on the car is for an amc.
