When driving in a heavy rainstorm at turnpike speeds, the engine starts to sputter and miss and the check engine light comes on. After sitting for an hour or so, the problem goes away and the light goes off after about 24 hours. Our mechanic cannot find problem. It happens ONLY in heavy rains.

There is a "silicon dialectric" available at most parts stores (looks like vasaline) that you should use on the ends of all your spark plug wires and electrical connections on the ign. coils and the distributor. This should help.
