I recently had a transmission cooler installed and since then the key will not come out of the ignition unless the battery is disconnected. Does this sound like an electrical issue?

I have a 2001 MPV and it just happen over the weekend. If you take off only the upper column cover and look on the combination switch towards top and way on the backside you will see 2 wires running to a little black protrusion on the right. This is the back side of the microswitch. Move the shifter off park, (with the emergency brake pulled) and you can see the little metal bar coming from the switch.
If you press it down and the key comes out this is your problem. I just bent the bar up alittle and it works again. I hope this can help you.

Do not force the key, get some powdered graphite and squirt it into the lock, try and work the key loose, if it wont move you may have a jambed tumbler and the lock will have to be removed.

The ignition key will not turn oast the accessory position when trying to to turn the vehicle off. The key can not be removed. When I disconnect the negative battery cable, the switch can be truned off and the key removed. What caused this condition, the switch or an interlock?

Sounds like an interlock problem since apparently it's electrical in nature.
