I can't figure out how to remove the fuel lines from the fuel filter. They have a coloured plastic locking mechanism and I already snapped one trying to pull it off. There is obviously a simple way to release the plastic u shaped pin but I can't figure it out and I don't want to break another one.

FUEL FILTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

WARNING: Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and can be ignited, resulting in possible personal injury.

Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure even when the engine is not running. Before repairing or disconnecting any of the fuel lines or fuel system components, the fuel system pressure must be relieved to prevent accidental spraying of fuel, causing personal injury or a fire hazard.

1.Relieve the system pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELIEF.
2.Disconnect the push release and R-clip fittings.

3.Remove the fuel filter from the bracket.

4.If necessary, remove the nut and the bracket.
5.Install in reverse order of removal
