1999 Mazda b4000 Heater blowing cool air

It's 20 below 0. I was driving down the highway and the heater started blowing cool air. A strange, musty smell came out of the vent. Now the car is idling at about 2200 rmp when it normally idles at 1200.....?

The temperature gauge is all the way to the left (cold)...

Replace the thermostat-double check coolant level and make sure its mix correctly to withstand that temperature
