I have a 1999 Mazda 626 4 cyl. with 116k on it. There was a squealing noise at low RPMs (start up and at stop lights). The Alternator belt came off. I have replaced both belts with the correct ones. I have adjusted the belts to have little deflection. The squealling has yet to stop. I have re-adjusted to ensure I was not too tight or too loose. It doesn't matter either way. Could this be a symptom of my power steering pump going bad. Are there bearings in the power steering pump? I really don't want to replace parts here and there that don't need to be replaced. Please help me in this embarassing situation. Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

Quick check, remove both belts, start engine, noise? YES=Internal NO= external Fit inner belt start engine noise YES= your found it, NO, fit next belt, isolate the noise this way and then you can start to check the suspect component.
