2001 Mazda 626 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 59,012 miles
Last night my car went into reverse when I put it in drive and in park. I turned it off and attempted to start it again to no avail. I have not had any problems with the transmission prior to this and the gear shift moves easily between park, drive etc. There have been no strange noises or grinding noises.[/quote:03a2daafdc]
Under your hood on your transmission you have a shifter cable. On the end of the cable there is a small plastic clip that brakes and the cable falls off. If u have some1 sit in the car and move the shifter from park to 1st u will see the cable moveing. U will also see that where it attatches to is not hooked up. Most cars there is not a repair kit for this problem but some there is. If you goto the dealer they will most likley sell u a whole cable. If u goto a tech out in the shop they most likley have a new end or simple repair to fix this problem. In the slight chance the cable is on under the hood u will need to take your consol apart and reattach it in there. For a simple fix to last a few days use a few rubberbands but it is only a temp fix as they will break fast from the heat under the hood.
