2000 Mazda 626 will not go in gear

I just purchased this 626 for daughter.I drove it from Clearwater to Tampa Fl.Car drove fine.Daughter drove to store came out and the shifter will move however car stays in park.Stuck in parking lot now.

should have an over ride access beside the shifter
step and the brakes and check if brake light on
check fuses and brake light switch



place shifter in neutral and then start engine place in drive and take it home
do not put it back in Park until you reach your destination

Hey thanks for reply.
However I did try that.It got towed in today.The clip from the cable might have come off or cable broke or stretched.I could not find cable in dark lastnight.I know where it is now tho.
