If I remember right, your alternator belt is also driving the water pump pulley. That could be the reason why you are overheating. But first and foremost, you need to find the cause as to your belt being shredded. Is there a pulley that is "seized"? Are all the pulley driven by this particular belt, are they all lined up straight?
