Hi there,
This is a question often asked by my customers, The trouble is that very few jobs are the same, you say the head gasket is blown, but that can be only a small part of the repair. Alloy heads can crack and bend when over heating due to head gasket failure. Also when heads are straightened and welded you can have valve seat distortion problemsas a resault of the the initial repair. Your mechanic should tell you of all these problems and inform you when doing repairs that further work is required (we don't have x-ray eyes when first inspecting these jobs) You as the customer should be fulley involved with the repair giving the ok to do extra work if the mechanic feels that it is required. It's your car and your hard earnd dollars so don't be shy in asking to be kept informed as to whats going on, if you don't like what you hear in the first place, go get a second opinion, ask friends whothey get to do their work, word of mouth is the best form of advertising in this industry. I hope that this is of some help.
