Air Conditioning problem

When I turn on the a/c the car accelerate more than usual, to the point if I do not have my foot on the brake the car would go on its own. Also, after awhile of having the a/c on, I am unable to shift gears. I have to stop for awhile, turn a/c off and then, it will shift gears ok.
