how much does it cost to repair a head gasket for a 98 mazda 626 lx? and how difficult would it be?

HI there,

You Can consider spending anywhere from $800 to $1200 maybe more, this will depend on what problems are found with the cylinder head when removed, it is never a case of just a new gasket and away you go, the head must be tested for cracks, warp twist and pressure tested for valve problems, this should only be done my a competent mechanic or a back yard mechanic with very good skills.
