Hello,
An engine can shake and hesitate under load (acceleration) when you have issues with the spark plug or a vacuum leak.
Many times if you have misfire the check engine light will be illuminated.
If it is illuminated get the vehicle scanned for trouble code.

The code might tell you which plug is misfiring. If it does not pin point the issue you will have to visual inspect the plugs. Excessive amount of carbon buildup will cause a spark plug to misfire under load.
Here is couple of helpful videos of determining which cylinder is misfiring:

Another possibility is you might have a vacuum leak. It can happen due to a broken or cracked vacuum hose. Check for vacuum leak when the engine is cold.
