1997 Mazda 626 4 cyl Automatic 145800 miles

for the last week my car has been making a loud screeching noise but for the last two days it has stopped while I'm waiting at a stop sign or stoplight, what may be the cause of this?

Get the brakes checked as this could be the low pad warning device rubbing on the rotor, start here.
