i was driving and my battery light comes on and my car shifts to 3rd gear and stays in third, the battery light is staying on, it is a new battery, is this a transmission problem or a alternator problem

HI there, the battery light is indicating that the alternator is under charging, the shift problem could be related to this due to low battery voltage with no alternator charge rate, check this out first.
