2005 Mazda 6 Engine redlines when accelerating

Engine Performance problem
2005 Mazda 6 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

There are times when accelerating my 2005 Mazda 6 wagon (6 cylinder automatic) when it does nothing but have the engine roar, the tachometer redline at 7000 rpm plus and not acceleration take place. I have been advised that this could be due to the transmission or the throttle position sensor. Any insight?

Hi Over 80,

Symptoms indicates the transmission is slipping or not engaging and could be due to a failing trans or its controls.

Get a scan done to retrieve for trouble codes and let me know if any found. Check the transmission fluid level and condition first. Low fluid level can cause the symptoms described.

Checked the transmission fluid -- appears to be well over the "Full" mark -- almost to the twist. Colour is reddy-brown not too dissimilar to fresh from container. See photos

Photos may lack oomph but I didn't want to edit them (usually put them in Excel and take it from there).

Over filling of trans fluids causes churning of the fluids and that would result in foaming of the fluids which would affect the performance.

Reddish brown fluids indicates slippage as the fluids are overheating and the cheapest option is to get the fluids replaced and filled to the correct level and retest.

If symptoms persists that would mean the trans is failing and be prepared for it to fail anytime.
