Looking to buy 1991 Mazda with 5-sp trans. Owner pulled out bolt on fornt of trans he thot was oil plug. Now trans won't shift. Bolt is quarter-inch with threads on 1st part & smooth spindle on last half-inch. What does it take to put bolt back in? Do I have to remove cover or tranny to complete? Is there easy fix?

Hi there,

I think that the bolt is a selector locater or pivot, I will look up the gear box on Monday at work, but I feel that the transmission will have to be removed to repair problem, because the supporting internal component is now misaligned. I will re post as soon as I find out.

Hi there,
iIwent to work as I have a 5 speed 323 I am fitting a clutch to at the moment. If the bolt you are referring to is at the front of the gear bob and above the reverse light switch, I feel that you will have to remove the box and dismantle it to fix. This looks like an internal fixing for the selectors, something has shifted when the bolt has been removed and I feel that there is no way ti can be re set in situ.
