I have a Mazda 323, 2002 modle and done 175,000 kms. My AC unit would not cool much so I got it charged for a local AC technician, but there is such a irritatin noise when the compressor goes on. Could u help me whats the noise and if everything is ok with the cooling system?

What kind of noise? Sound like a belt squeeling? Or is it a rattle type sound? If rattling, it is either over charged or the compressor is failing. I would have it checked, if the comp breaks internally it puts debris through the system causing alot more expense

Thanks for your promt reply, yes it is kind of a rattling sound and it comes only when the compressor goes on. I asked the AC technician there when he charged it with the gas, but he claims that only Mazda and Honda Civics have this problems after some years. So does that means, the life of the compressor is over? Or do I need to change the compressor? The cooling is fine, but that rattling sound. Is crazy. Please help

They can rattle and still work, Im not too sure about only Hondas and Mazdas doing that. At 175k Id say you got your moneys worth out of it if you decide to replace it, or wait for it to fail. Could go a long time before failing, there is no way to tell for sure
