1989 Mazda 323 changing the water pump

after the water pump was changed, it ran ok for one day, than the next morning i crank it up and gas started pooring out of the exhaust and tail pipe. i readjust the barmetric regulator and it stopped for 3 minutes and started back again. Do you think the timing need to be reset, had to take the timing belt off to put the water pump on.

The only way for that to happen is your injectors or the fuel pressure regulator leaking or excessive fuel pressure
