Mass air flow to motor

The car turns over but coughs in a sense, like possible air leak. No compression. Upon digging around a bit I found the the boot/hose that goes into the motor has cracks long enough to allow air. Also there is another small outlet going to the motor from the same side (drivers) which is loose and actually came completely out. As opposed to the other side no cracks and the smaller tube is fixed and does not move.

If you have a cracked hose, it should be repaired. Yes, a vacuum leak will cause driveability issues. If the check engine light is staying on with the engine running, have the computer scanned for diagnostic trouble codes which may tell you exactly the problem.

I realize most people don't own a scanner, but most parts stores will do for free.
