It sounds like a bad connection or bad wire if just touching the harness causes a problem. I would check the wires for corrosion and tug each one to see if they are corroded inside the actual connector at the crimp. You can get a replacement connector for around thirty dollars or visit a salvage yard and get two or three for that price.
It is also possible to buy the small connectors but then you need the special crimp tool to install them as they are tiny.
