Manual transmission shifter play?

I have the vehicle listed above MT Subaru WRX. I installed a short shifter kit, and it was working great for a while, but after some time, the shifter developed play when pressure to the right is applied in 3rd gear and 4th gear. I have checked the connection for the cables at the shifter, and I did not see anything out of the ordinary.

The problem sounds like it is in the shifter itself, I would take it back apart and recheck the screws and bolts inside the shifter. There is a chance one of the shifter cables and come apart internally. I would move the shifter into the gears what there is slop and have a helper watch the selector shaft on the transmission to see if it moves when you move the shifter.
