Manual transmission locked in fourth gear.

The transmission shifter is in neutral, l but when I let out the clutch it is locked in fourth gear. If I shift into any other gear and let out the clutch the truck will not move and stalls.

Sounds as if it is trying to select two gears at once, pull the selector shaft off and see if you can select neutral, if not the box may have to come out to investigate further.
