Recently, my has car died and stopped while I was driving. I was able to started up each time. I had taken it to a Firestone auto repair shop and a GM dealership. The Firestone manager suggested I take it to a GM dealership. The head mechanic at the dealership claimed they tried to use a diagnostic, but nothing come up. I do not want to drive around with a car that could go out on me without warning. So what could be the problem(s) and should try another mechanic?

Yeah, intermittent problems can be a pain to track. You need to do testing when problem is ongoing, otherwise the computer may not show anything. I am talking about fuel--spark--electrical, when the problem is ongoing. GM has had problems with ignition switches. I hate to see you replace anything and the problem turns out to be something else? I realize at the moment, you do not feel safe driving this vehicle.

One of the most commonly replaced parts on your vehicle, is the fuel pump. I cannot guarantee it is the fuel pump? Does it stall at idle or going down the highway?

At the top of page, repair guides, has some interesting info for testing. Check it out if you have time?
