actually my question is very simple. can a broken waterpump damage the timing belt, visa versa? because i went to a mechanic and he wanted 6000 rands because the timing belt was apparently broken

we don't have those cars in US but yes it could damage a timing belt. besides recommended replacement for belt and tensioner is 60k. A lot of these come as a kit where the water pump, belt tensioner and pulleys are all replaced.
