I immediately pulled over and shut the vehicle off and added two quarts of oil and had it towed. I have been told it needs an oil pump and timing chain kit. I don't know. Please help.

Hello,

So, when you add the two quarts of oil, was it actually low two quarts?
Low oil pressure light can come on if the oil pump is bad, also if the engine is very low on oil.
Typically, you will have to test the oil pressure to determine if the pump is bad.

So, if the oil pump is bad it will need to be replaced. Also, the timing kit gets replaced as it is recommended to do so when changing the oil pump.

Let me know of any questions.
Thank you.

No, it was about a half quart low but was past time for oil change. Several people told me to try adding diesel to my oil and let it idle for about 30 minutes then drain the oil pan and put new oil and new oil filter in it before buying the expensive parts.

Well, the first step should be to test the oil pressure. Which can determine if the oil pump is good or bad.
