The SUV listed above has run extremely well until recently (only non-routine maintenance has been all 8 spark plugs were replaced recently). There is a loud roar while accelerating that only subsides shortly after each upshift. While maintaining speed the engine sounds fine. Just recently the engine temperature spiked up while on city roads and I pulled over and waited for it to cool. After, I drove about 30 minutes home with no temperature issues, just noise. I was wondering if these issues were related at all, maybe something with the exhaust.

It sounds like you have a plugged exhaust system, or the clutch fan is locked up, the only thing is if the fan was locked it should not cause overheating unless the fan itself is damaged. Can you please shoot a quick video with your phone so I can hear the noise? That way I can tell for sure what's going on. You can upload it here with your response.

This guide can help us see what is going on with the overheating:

Please run down these guides and report back.

The clutch fan was freely spinning and it was spinning while the truck was running.

The roaring sounds like an bearing hub? Does the roaring change if you put the truck in neutral and rev the engine?

Yes, the roaring subsided and it sounded normal while revving the engine in neutral.

It sounds like you have two different problems, we will continue with the roaring noise please start a new question of the overheating. I would replace both front bearing hubs which are a common failure on these trucks.

Here is a video to show you how:

Get a high-quality replacement if you want it to last. Cheap ones go out fast.
