Loud humming noise when I reach over 40 MPH

There is a loud humming noise coming from the front and as I go faster it becomes so loud you cannot hear a conversation or the radio.

This should be a front wheel drive so I would suggest you get the car safely up on a lift, then start the engine place in gear, then drive and rev the engine until you recreate the noise, then try to pinpoint what is making the noise. Being on the lift the mechanic can basically walk right under the front listening.
