I have 2000 chevy tahoe 5.3 4x4 v8 newer body style, When I accelerate and turn corners, and brake I hear this loud grinding/ rattling noise which seems like it's coming from the rear end or the middle of the truck (in 2 wheel drive ) , once I leave off the gas the sound goes away. I replaced both front wheel bearings/ hubs, fluid the trans and check out the differential little medal flakes in the oil, nothing major. What could it be?

HAVE YOU LOOKED AT THE UNIVERSAL JOINTS?

I MADE SOME PICS OF MINE UNDER MY 1946 WILLYS JEEP A FEW YEARS BACK FOR ANOTHER FELLER'S QUESTION (THEY ARE BELOW)

YOUR STUFF MAY VARY IN LOOKS

IF YOU HAVE NEGLECTED THEM FOR A GOOD WHILE. THEY WILL MAKE SOME RACKET! WHEN EITHER OF MY JEEP'S U-JOINTS START TO GO BAD, THEY WILL "CHIRP" WHEN I LET UP OFF OF THE GAS. OTHER VEHICLES DON'T NECESSARILY DO IT, BUT I FIGGERED I'D THROW THAT IN THERE!

WHEN YOU CHECK 'EM, BE ON LEVEL GROUND

CHOCK THE FRONT AND REAR OF YOUR WHEELS (SO IT CANNOT ROLL EITHER WAY)

PUT IT IN NEUTRAL WITH THE ENGINE OFF, EMERGENCY BRAKE ON! (THIS WILL TAKE THE LOAD/ TENSION OFF OF THE DRIVESHAFT SO IT WILL MOVE FREELY ON THE TRANNY END)

LET'S BE SAFE!

USE MY PICS TO TEST 'EM

RETURN TO THIS THREAD WITH NEWS THAT YOU HAVE FOUND THE PROBLEM!
