According to my dad while getting on the freeway he was accelerating and at around 60mph the car lost power and stopped accelerating, he said there was a vibration and the smell of burning plastic, he returned home and let the car there for a couple days. When I helped him check it out he turned it on and within seconds there was smoke coming out of the transmission dipstick tube. Not exactly sure what could've been the cause of all this, any suggestions?

I'm not really sure how those two things smell. Best I can do based on smell is to say that the transmission oil didn't smell burnt, and I know exactly how that smells.
