loss of oil

I got in my truck to go home and I smelled oil like I did earlier that day. Started my truck and I noticed that I had no oil pressure. Is was late and I was in the middle of no where so I babied it home about ten miles. I never heard any engine noises like tappets or knocking. The next day I checked and I had no oil showing on the dipstick and slot of oil on the bottom of the engine and transmission. I thought I blew the rear main seal, but there is nothing on the inside of the bell house or flywheel. It is coming from above there was oil around the sending unit. Could that be were my oil went and what has happened?

Yes, sending units can leak, but you know we cannot tell that over a computer. The best approach is to fill the oil, wash the area with engine degreaser, start the engine, then watch for where it is coming out. Look for the highest place you see oil. Rear main seals does not leak very fast because there is no pressure there. Sounds like your leak is at a pressurized point in the system.
