When accelerating gearbox goes through all the gears but as soon as the car reaches eighty kmph the lock up torque converter engages. It is like changing from third to fifth. Goes like a dog after eighty unless you have your foot on the floor. Is there a way to manually control the lock up by a separate switch? The overdrive off switch drops it back to third gear. It would be nice to be able to use fourth gear without lock up on a slight hill.

Can I ask if the speedometer is working correctly? I sounds like you have VSS that might be off. We should run the codes to see whats going on.

Please run down this guide and report back.

The speedometer is working normally. Everything seem to work alright until the car reaches 80 mph. I have a diagnostic machine but I cannot find the plug, where it should be is blank. I will keep looking. Found the diagnostic plug under the bonnet but my cable does not fit. I have no warning lights on either. I am thinking of looking up wiring diagrams and see if I can isolate the solenoid.

Here is the transmission wiring diagrams and a guide to help you test the circuits. I sounds like the PCM might be bad but lets test things first. Here is the ALDL data link connector location as well.

Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what happens.
