The lock on the drivers door popped out of the door handle. The repair shop says I'll have to replace the entire mechanism which will cost $400.00 in parts before installation. I'm curious if this is actually necessary as no issues were noticed prior to this occurring. Any thoughts would be most appreciated!

Hello,

Here is a video that shows how to replace the door lock on a similar car but the process is the same with diagrams below that show your car:

Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

I actually watched this prior to emailing (excellent video!), But I am not sure what parts would be required. Would I just need a new handle? Or will I need to invest in a whole new lock mechanism? Thank you!

You will need to take it apart to see what is broken to be sure but it sounds like the retainer clip broken which is a few dollar part. If you are not sure shoot a quick video with your phone so we can see what's going on, that would be great. You can upload it here with your response.

You're amazing! Once it warms up a bit in these northern regions, I'll take the door apart and check it out. Thank you!
