Trying to locate the heated oxygen sensor bank 1 sensor 1 on my vehicle listed above LS model. My catalytic converter stolen. I had it replaced then CEL was on and now I'm getting codes P0130, P0135, and P0304. I was under the impression that the pre-cat upstream sensor would be just below the exhaust manifold but doesn't seem to be. Finding contradictory info online such as inside near the middle console and just under the heat shield. Neither seem to be accurate. If it helps I believe the engine is a 4G69. Thanks

Hi,

There are two oxygen sensors. One is located where the catalytic converter bolts to the down pipe from the engine (see pic 1 below). The second one is after the catalytic converter and before the muffler.

Since this is a 4-cylinder, there is only one bank. Sensor 1 is the first sensor back from the engine, the one mounted on the inlet of the catalytic converter. (See pic 1)

In pic 2, I circled the sensor needing replaced.

The last two pics are the directions for replacing it. Take a look through them and let me know if they help.

Note: You will need an O2 sensor socket that is designed to not damage the electrical wiring at the sensor. Most parts stores should lend one to you.

Take care and let me know if this helps.

Thank you so much for your reply. I believe that is exactly where I noticed the cutout in the heat shield that looks as if that is where it should be but isn't. In the first photo you posted it appears that the sensor is located directly into the catalytic converter itself. Or at least without it being obvious it's missing? There just isn't from what I could see. Is that the case? If so, then it wouldn't be possible to install one without it being obvious a sensor is missing, is it? I am thinking that could be the case, hence the CEL and codes after the replacement. I hope that's not the case given this is California and mechanics would know it wouldn't pass smog otherwise. I have the socket already, thank you for the tip.

Hi,

If the sensor is missing, you will hear an exhaust leak. As far as location, it should be right at the inlet of the catalytic converter. When the engine is cold, feel up around the top of the inlet. It should be facing toward the floor.

Let me know.
