86 Town Car Engine revs "Hunting" on tickover

1986 Lincoln town car 5.0 liter, 52000miles, runs fine, fuel economy good, starts fine but on tickover engine revs are hunting and in the end engine will stop. This happens with engine hot or cold. Help!

Usually surging is a sign of a vacuum leak, get a can of spray gumout, if you need an assistant to keep it running get one. Spray around the vacuum hoses and if you hear the idle change, you found one.
