We had no problems until my wife ran through a large water puddle now the car hesitates. It sounds like she got the whole engine compartment wet. Now we have the check engine light on. Where do Istart looking for the problem

The check engine light is indicating the OBD-II (On Board Diagnostics) has detected a problem. There is a certain code number associated with the check engine light activation.
If you have a Advance Auto Parts store near you. They can plug a code scanner into your OBD-II connector free of charge. The scanner will display a code number indicating exactly what the problem is.
Hopefully it is nothing major and you can do the repair yourself.
