2000 Lincoln Town Car thermostat & intake manifold

drive belt squeaking for few days then breaks. drive 1 mile, car overheats, water starts leaking, tow car to dealer, fix belt. dealer claims thermostat now sticks, wants $1,600 to replace stat & intake manifold. i say no drive home, let car idle 2 hours no overheating. could this be scam, intermitate sticking that hasn't happened yet, or possible manifold issue.

Those vehicles do have problems witht heplastic intake breaking and leaking.Take it to a ASE certified tech and have the cooling system pressure tested for leaks.The thermostat would be a good idea to replace since it got hot, that will mess with them sometimes, but if the intake is good, it should be considerably cheaper.
