1998 Lincoln Town Car starting the car

My key will not turn. It will not leave 1st postion. The shift lever is in park. The brake is on. Iti checked fuses and relay. I think the key needs to be re programmed. Thanks Terry

I am not a pro mechanic but this sounds like a tumbler or worn key problem.
Try a spare key?
To the best of my understanding- if the programing were bad the key would still turn in all positions but the car would not start or only run for a short time.
