1997 Lincoln Town Car parking brake light

when I step on brake pedal a dash brake light goes on but when I release brake light turns off. This does not happen every time I hit the brakes to stop. Brakes seem to be working fine. What do you reccomend?

check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder and top off if needed
