Theres allot of variables that come into play here, but it sounds like it has a leak and is low on freon. When this happens, depending on how low on freon it is, it may freeze you out of the car in the evening or maybe even when its raining. But not do hardly anything in the heat of the day.
In the hottest part of the day, let the car run with the a/c on max air, high blower for awhile and pop the hood. Have someone hold the throttle at a high idle. Look for the a/c compressor(has 2 lines coming out=one going towards frt. Of car and the other to the cab) under the hood and see if you see & hear the a/c clutch engage(click) on and off pretty fast.
If this is happening, most likely you have a leak and your low on freon.
