1992 Lincoln Towncar battery ground wire smokes

My town car clicks when try to start and now the neg. side of the battery wire smokes from the ground end of it that connect to the egine i had replace the wire on still smoke come from the ground end...??? don't know what the problem is

Sounds like the battery is low. buy a new battery it should fire right up. with the smoke check for corosion everywhere clean all the cables and terminals that should stop it.
