1990 Lincoln Town Car transmission slips and wont go into o

the transmission slips when shifting into third and wont stay in 4th bedcause of slippage. i changed fluid and filter and fluid smelled burnt. is there any kind of adjustment or anything to look for or am i going to have to replace or rebuild the transmission

Hi there,

with the slipping and burnt oil, this will need looking at by a trans tech, i feel it will be beyond and remedial repairs.
