Have a look at the spring(larger) and remove it, take note of how it goes back on, then get a can of brakleen and spray the mechanism, move the lock latch and the catch while spraying, then when it moves freely, reinstall the spring and test it. Road grime and dirt build up in there and sieze the latch!
