I hit a curb with on my passenger side, the rear tire is flat but everything else is fine. My car wont start though, is there some sort of safety button or mechanism that takes affect after an impact?

Yes, there is a fuel cut off switch. It is an inertia switch that stops the fule pump from running in case of an accident. In a worse scenerio if you had fuel leaking from a worse collision the fuel pump being shut off wouldnn't continue to pump more fuel on the ground as a fire hazard. Look in your owners manual for the inertia switch location and simply push down the poped up switch to re-activate the fuel pump. It will likely be in the trunk or down by the passenger or driver foot area.
