2000 Lincoln LS rear wheel ball joint??

Mechanic says I need a rear drivers side ball joint. Says it's part of the connecting rod? Have to buy whole thing from Ford??? Please note this is for the REAR wheel. I can't find anything on this anyplace. Is this true??
