2000 Lincoln LS 6 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 150000 miles

When I am driving and the D is lit on the dashboard occassionally the D changes to an E. What does that mean?

I believe that means there is a transmission error occuring. This could be an electrical concern and should be addressed by you local dealer.
